Edmondson Park – 11kV Mains Construction

Good communication with the local community was an important part of this project. Power had to be cut off to local residents 12 times for construction needs. Communicating effectively ensured a positive outcome for all those affected.

Scope

Construction of an approx. 4.5km 11kV feeder line for Landcom (now Urban Growth) south west of Sydney from near Ingleburn North Public School south of Campbelltown Road, to the Prestons Zone substation at Camden Valley Way. The Works were part of Landcom’s preparations for a major land release that will contribute to the creation of two new suburbs, Edmondson Park and Bardia; and potentially more than 8,000 dwellings.
Most of the line was overhead with a large section following the eastern part of Croatia Avenue, and three short underground sections to cross under Campbelltown Road, the South West Rail Link and Camden Valley Way. The work included:

  • Overhead – installation of 42 new timber poles and stringing two AL conductors
  • Underground – trenching, installation of conduits and cables and back filling.

What was originally planned as one stage job became a four stage job due to significant design changes made by Landcom and holdups with the work to cross the South West Rail Link.

The project involved extensive liaison with contractors on other Landcom projects re scheduling of work on different parts of the route. It also required continuous communication with the local community when planning power outages. Liaison work included arranging a generator to provide interim power supply for a person on life-support equipment.

The P&U Difference

Poles & Underground had the flexibility and could provide additional resources to respond promptly to unexpected design changes.
